Lorna Robb joined Fraser C Robb in 2007. She started her career within the hotel industry, latterly within the HR Department, then remained within HR for numerous years, before a move into Britvic as a Sales Manager. She then joined Totaljobs.com to set up the sales office within Scotland, then established her own job board, ScotJobsNet with her business partner, prior to joining Fraser C. Robb

How long have you been working in this industry?
I have worked in the industry for 12 years – previously worked in Sales and HR, initially in Hotel Industry then with Britvic Soft Drink and Totaljobs.com
What does the average day look like for you?
At Fraser C Robb I start at 7am
I look after the day to day operation of the business.
Activities I do on a daily basis
- Sell to customer on telephone / in showroom
- Manage the team
- Manage the workshop – allocate jobs
- Mange Finances of the business
Go home at 5.30pm
May check emails / do quotes / catch up at night or weekends
What would you say is the biggest challenge working in this industry/Have you faced any challenges being a female in a male-dominated environment?
No big challenges. I can hold my own!!
Small challenges
- Sometimes customers don’t think they can’t have a technical conversation with me
- Not strong enough to lift something
- Not able to reverse a trailer
Why did you choose to work in this industry?
Family business – great to work with my mum, dad and brother
This industry is normal – great people – great products – anything is possible – no constraints
What advice would you give to women wanting to join the industry?
Go for it!
There is a definite place for women within the industry – ensure you choose the right company to work with – some are still stuck in the dark ages!! (these are much fewer now)
Talk to women already working / shadow women already working
All skills learnt in other industries are fully transferable into this industry
